Note: Your 7E is needed to
legally practice driving with the Instructor on the roadways. New
Brunswick residents are able to have this procedure completed before
their start date. Out of Province residents will have to wait until
they arrive in New Brunswick and start their program.
-
Have Medical Form completed by a
doctor (minimum cost of $20.00).
-
Study the Drivers Handbook and Air
Brake Manual thoroughly (these books can be obtained at your local
Motor Vehicle Branch for a small fee).

-
Go to the Motor Vehicle Branch with
your completed Medical Form to do the written portion of the Class
#1. The examiner will check your Medical Form, test your eyes, and
administer the four written test, which are ;
-
Once you have successfully completed
all of the above, the Driver Examiner will stamp your Medical Form
and sign the stamped area. This signed, stamped Medical Form is
now your Instructional Permit for Class #1 (7E).
There is no question that the Trucking
Industry needs qualified Class #1 drivers. There is, however, a
minimum standard that employers must consider before hiring an
individual to drive for them.
-
Employers will question us on both a
drivers attitude and practical ability.
-
A drinking and driving charge,
dangerous driving, or similar charge will deter a potential
employer from hiring a driver due to the fact that he or she will
be uninsurable.
-
Good health is also essential, due
to the fact that a provincial medical is required. Some medical
conditions will prevent you from obtaining your Tractor Trailer
License.
-
Drug screening is often administered
before the driver is hired, and randomly during employment.
-
The legal driving age for tractor
trailer drivers is 21 in the US, and 18 in New Brunswick. Check at
your local Motor Vehicle Branch for other provincial standards.
-
A flexible lifestyle is a MUST, as
drivers are often away from their homes and families for weeks at
a time.

Your Driver's Abstract can be obtained
from your local Motor Vehicle Branch. The charge for requesting an
abstract is approximately $10.00. Employers will request a
7-year abstract. If you have not yet been driving for 7 years, go
back to the beginning of your licensed experience.
Students will receive a letter with
their book-in confirmation, and they are required to bring it to
their local RCMP office, or the local constabulary, and request a
Criminal Search. This letter explains the fact that the student
requires a Criminal Search when they are applying for work. Quite
often, there will be a charge for the search.
The screening process is required only
for students who are taking the Professional Class
#1-12 Week Internship Program.
The Screening Process involves
-
Tests are administered by an
independent agency.
-
Evaluation of the students basic
education level, aptitude and Industry knowledge.
-
Evaluating the students Criminal
Record, Drivers Abstract and Medical Report.
If the student does not pass the
Screening Process for the Internship program, they may still be eligible
for the Six or Eight Week programs.
We do not have accommodations on site,
but we do have people in the area that we deal with on a regular
basis that do board our student for us. Some of these boarding
houses are within walking distance if that is required.
